Vol. 151 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification: County Limerick.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the fact that the local canvass carried out by the E.S.B. in the Ardagh district, County Limerick, was very satisfactory, he will make representations to the board to extend rural electrification to the area in the near future.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Rathreigh area, which includes Ardagh, has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but has not so far been selected as the returns for the area have not compared favourably with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Limerick district. The area will be reconsidered by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns for the area then compare with those for other areas in the Limerick district awaiting development.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the fact that the local canvass carried out by the E.S.B. in the Athea district, County Limerick, was very satisfactory, he will make representations to the board to extend rural electrification to the area in the near future.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the results of a recent recanvass of the householders in this area have yet to be examined and that the decision of the board as to whether the area can be selected for development will depend on how the returns compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Tralee district.
