Vol. 159 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing Loan Application.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the Dublin Corporation have not since 7th June accepted applications for loans under the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts from persons who are qualified for supplementary housing grants.

The only information I have on this matter is that contained in Press notices published by the corporation to the effect that applications for loans in hands at 7th June were estimated to require the balance of capital moneys available for the purpose of the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts, including the £1,000,000 which the Minister for Finance agreed to issue from the Local Loans Fund for that purpose in the current financial year. Since that date, however, the corporation have been informed that the Minister for Finance is prepared to afford them financial backing for capital expenditure to the same extent in 1957-58 as in 1956-57. The application of the funds to be thus made available is a matter for determination by the corporation in the first instance.
