Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servants' Remuneration.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of civil servants who at 31st March, 1948 and 1956, respectively, were in receipt of salaries, bonus and allowances which, in the aggregate, amounted in each individual case to (a) £3,000 or more, (b) £2,500 or more, (c) £2,000 or more, (d) £1,750 or more, and (e) £1,500 or more.

The statistics available relate only to the first working day of each year. The particulars for 2nd January, 1956, are (a) 6, (b) 31, (c) 88, (d) 181, (e) 228. The only corresponding particulars available for 1948 are (c) 6 and (e) 70. The numbers given for each salary range are exclusive of the numbers given for any higher salary range.
