asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of the year 1955/56 the estimated number of persons effectively liable to income-tax (a) as salary and wage earners and pensioners under Schedule E, and (b) as recipients of other income and profits under the remaining tax schedules.
Material on which an estimate for the year 1955/56 could be based is not yet available. For the year 1954/55 the number of persons who were effectively liable to income-tax and whose main source of income arose under Schedule E is estimated at 133,000. The number of liable persons whose main source of income did not arise under Schedule E was approximately 43,500.
