Vol. 164 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Directors of State-sponsored Companies.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state which directors of what State-sponsored boards or companies appointed by him, or by the Government, who were in office on the 20th March last, no longer hold such office; and if he will further state who has since been appointed in the place of each such director, or as an additional director, of any such board or company, and the qualifications, if any, of each person so appointed.

Mr. Dominick L. Daly, a member of C.I.E., who was first appointed in 1950, died on the 28th June last, and the Government have since appointed in his place Mr. Thomas P. Hogan, who is an engineer by profession and a director of a company of electrical and radio equipment manufacturers.

Dr. Thomas A. McLaughlin and Mr. James M. Fay, members of the E.S.B., who were first appointed in 1927 and 1930, respectively, ceased to hold office as such on the 31st October last, when their term of office expired, and no one has since been appointed by the Government in their place.

No one has been appointed by the Government as an additional member of either of these two boards since the 20th March last.

Is that the only other appointment which that named gentleman holds?

I cannot answer that question. What does the Deputy mean exactly?

It is the normal practice, when making a return to the companies office, that all the appointments the proposed nominee holds would be listed. I thought the same practice would be applicable here.

I am unaware of such a practice.

I shall ask the Taoiseach next week.

Very well.
