Written Answers. - Departures from and Arrivals in the State.

Mr. Sweetman

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of departures from the State for each month since 1st January, 1949.

The Taoiseach

The number of departures from the State by sea, rail, road (motor omnibus services) and air (excluding transit passengers) for each month from January, 1949, to September, 1957, are shown in the appended table. The data for the remaining months of 1957 are not yet available.

The figures refer to all outgoing passengers by these routes, and therefore include Irish residents going abroad as well as visitors returning to places outside the State. The figures do not include persons travelling across the northern border of the State in private motor vehicles or on foot.

Following is the statement:
