Vol. 167 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade With Czechoslovakia.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give particulars of the balance of trade between Czechoslovakia and this country for the latest available 12 months.

In the 12 months ended 28 February, 1958, the total value of imports which originated in Czechoslovakia was £434,246 (c.i.f.) and the total value of our exports (including re-exports) to that country was £131,545 (f.o.b.): the import excess was accordingly £302,701.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary give us the main export items involved in the total?

I would require notice of that question.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say what are the main import items?

I would have to have a separate question about that.

Surely the question asks for particulars?

Yes, of the balance of trade, but not of the items.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if the main imports are motor cars?

I am afraid we will have to have a separate question about that matter.
