Vol. 170 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Expenditure.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the total expenditure by local authorities on the erection of houses owned by them in each of the past five years, and the estimated amount to be spent in the current year, and (b) the total expenditure by local authorities on grants to private persons and public utility societies for the erection of new houses in each of the past five years, and the estimated amount to be spent this year.

Information is not available in the form requested by the Deputy. The returns of local taxation show the capital expenditure by housing authorities on housing comprising expenditure under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts and Labourers Acts and expenditure on supplementary grants for new and reconstructed dwellings and on installation of sanitary services. I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report summaries of these returns for the year up to and including 1956-57 together with provisional total figures for 1957-58 and estimated total figures for 1958-59.
