Written Answers. - Unemployment Statistics.

Mr. McGilligan

asked the Taoiseach if he will state for each year from 1934 to 1947, inclusive (a) the greatest number of registered unemployed, (b) the average number of such unemployed, omitting any period in each year in which the numbers of such unemployed were affected by any Employment Period Order, (c) the average number of such unemployed, including periods affected by Employment Period Orders, (d) the number of those who emigrated.

The Taoiseach

The information requested by the Deputy at (a), (b) and (c) is given in the tables below. As regards (d) it is not possible to state the number of emigrants each year, but for the intercensal period 1936-46 the average annual net emigration was 18,712 persons a year.
