Vol. 171 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Independent Grain Dealers' Transactions.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if independent grain dealers are permitted to transact business direct with An Bord Gráin, or whether they must transact all dealing through the millers' association.

Final arrangements have not as yet been made in respect of the disposal of wheat held by licensed wheat dealers.

Am I to take it from the reply that independent grain dealers cannot deal direct with An Bord Gráin?

No; no such ruling has been made. The matter has not been decided yet.

I would like to get it clarified so that we can find out if they can deal with An Bord Gráin. There seems to be a complete and absolute monopoly for the millers here, as the Minister's reply seems to indicate. Can the Minister give me any hope for the future as to when this matter will be considered and when a decision will be reached?

No decision has been reached in regard to this question and there is no reason, as far as I can see, for any apprehension such as the Deputy has that independent dealers will be ruled out.

Independent dealers have told me that they have tried to deal with An Bord Gráin and they are not allowed to do so.

Nobody is dealing with An Bord Gráin yet. Even the millers are not dealing with them.

The millers are dealing with An Bord Gráin every day. They are the only people allowed to deal with them.
