Vol. 176 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Valuations.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of visits by officials from the Valuation Office (a) to farmers and (b) to other property owners in County Cork during the five years ending 5th April, 1959; whether the valuations of the properties concerned were subsequently increased; and, if so, if he will state the gross increase in such valuations.

I am unable to give the information asked for in the first part of the Deputy's question as the Valuers' reports do not necessarily indicate whether the occupiers of the properties are farmers or not.

As regards the second part of the Deputy's question, I am informed that during the five years ended 5 April, 1959, the Valuation Office dealt with 3,470 requests for revision of valuation in Cork City and the nine Urban Districts in Co. Cork and with 17,903 for the rest of the county. Some of the requests resulted in increases, some in decreases and others in no change in valuation. Overall there was a net increase amounting to £89,298 on a total valuation of £1,525,959 as at 1 March, 1954.
