Vol. 179 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction of Kerry Embankments.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the cause of the delay in repairing the breaches on the Maine embankments at Callinafercy East, Milltown, County Kerry; and if he will ensure that the improvements will be carried out expeditiously so as to prevent further floodings of land and danger to livestock.

Reconstruction of these embankments will be carried out this year under the Maine Catchment Drainage Scheme.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that at the present time, and for some months past, the lands in these areas have been seriously flooded so that the people cannot graze their cattle on the land or do any tillage? Is he not aware that last November the Land Commission, in conjunction with the Board of Works and the Parliamentary Secretary's section of the Department of Finance, agreed to close the breach temporarily to allow farmers to carry out their work in the ordinay way, pending the final completion of the work?

The Deputy should be satisfied with the answer I have given him.

No; I am not satisfied.
