Vol. 184 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration from Meath Towns.

40.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that heavy emigration from the three principal towns of Trim, Navan and Kells in County Meath has brought great distress and hardship; and if his Department have proposals for the establishment of industries in these three centres in hands.

As the Deputy is aware, the Government has provided valuable facilities and incentives to encourage the establishment and development of industries. It is for private enterprise to take advantage of these facilities and local interests should do their best to encourage private enterprise to set up industries in their areas.

There are no industrial proposals for Trim, Navan or Kells before my Department at present. The Deputy may take it that any sound proposals that may be formulated by local or other interests for the establishment of industries to supplement the amount of employment already provided by existing industries in these towns will be sympathetically considered.
