Vol. 186 No. 1

Private Members' Business. - Business of Dáil.

I understand motion No. 29 is being adjourned by agreement.

Motion No. 29 is not being proceeded with. I understand the Minister is bringing in a Bill within the next three weeks.

In the circumstances, I suggest the Dáil should adjourn.

We are ready to go on with the next motion.

I am not ready.

It has been on the Order Paper long enough.

We are ready to proceed but I understood the motion tabled by us was not going to be moved in order to facilitate the Government.

I heard that only within the last half hour.

To keep the record straight, the Chief Government Whip was notified today that we were prepared to postpone discussion on pigs and bacon in view of the fact that the Minister announced today that a Bill would be discussed on 8th March. As a result of his announcement, we felt it was only fair, if the Minister wanted it that way, not to move the motion before the Bill. There could be no blame attaching to us.

I am not attaching any blame. I recognise that the Deputy is quite right not to proceed with his motion in the circumstances. I suggest the House adjourn now because the Government are not in a position to proceed with the next motion.

The Dáil adjourned at 9.55 p.m. until 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, 9th February, 1961.
