Vol. 189 No. 3

Committee on Finance. - Vote 28—Charitable Donanons and Bequests.

I move:

That a sum not exceeding £4,510 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1962, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Charitable Donations and Bequests Office (7 & 8 Vict., c. 97, secs. 7 & 8; 30 & 31 Vict., c. 54, sec. 24; 34 & 35 Vict., c. 102; and No. 18 of 1955).

Vote put and agreed to.

In view of the lateness of the hour, it has been suggested that the Estimate for the Department of Posts and Telegraphs should not be taken tonight and that the House should now adjourn.

I should like to offer my sincere good wishes to the Minister and I should be grateful if you, Sir, would permit me to put that on the record. On previous Votes, I have complimented the Minister on his courtesy and compentence. He has always answered questions put to him by Deputies. He has played the game here as well as he did as a sportsman. He has played it to the last and played it well. I wish him very well.

May I say that I have always had a high opinion of the Minister? I have never criticised him personally. I have criticised his Estimate and I hope that when I quote from my speech in a question next. week, he will give me credit for that.

The Dáil adjourned at 10.30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 17th May, 1961.
