Vol. 195 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Telephone Exchanges.

37.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the proposed new telephone exchange will be erected in Thurles, County Tipperary.

Our best estimate, having regard to the relative urgency of other similar schemes, is about five years hence.

Is the Minister aware that the staff and the telephonists are working in over-crowded conditions due to the increase in telephone services?

I am aware that a new manual switchroom was provided in the post office and the magneto exchange replaced by central battery exchange in 1958. I am advised that the accommodation should suffice to enable a reasonably satisfactory service to be provided for a number of years.

38.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is intended to commence work on the extension of exchange equipment in Nenagh Post Office, County Tipperary, in order to expedite the provision of telephone services for the many local applicants.

Structural works to enable extension of exchange equipment in Nenagh to be made are nearing completion and it is expected to have the extension completed within two months.
