Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballycahill (Tipperary) Cottages.

55.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is hoped to sanction the building of cottages at Ballycahill, Thurles, County Tipperary.

56.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in sanctioning a scheme of cottages at Garrynamona, Ballycahill, County Tipperary on a site purchased from the Land Commission.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 55 and 56 together.

The house-plan submitted for a proposed scheme of four cottages at Garrynamona, Ballycahill, Thurles, required detailed technical examination. The housing authority have been requested to submit an amended house-design. When this is received a decision will issue to the housing authority as early as possible.

Is the Minister aware that the Land Commission let this portion of land 12 months ago unknown to the Department of Local Government and to the council and so delayed the scheme?

Were they not quite entitled to do so?

Yes, but the plans had been sent to the Department.

But the land has not been purchased.

The land has been purchased for the past 12 months.

The price has been agreed on but the money has not been paid. No money has passed but I do not think the Deputy need worry on that score. I have no knowledge that this is so or that it will hold up the matter.
