Vol. 196 No. 7

Written Answers. - Retired Army Officer.

57.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state, with reference to the case of a retired officer referred to as the Unit Accounting Officer by the Minister in his reply to the debate on Vote 47 in the Dáil on the the 22nd May, 1962, whether the responsibility of the officer for the loss of the stores mentioned by the Minister was determined on the 31st July, 1961.

On 31st July, 1961, it was clear that the officer had responsibility in relation to the loss of the stores, in that he had failed in his administrative responsibilities—a factor which had contributed to making possible the thefts that had occurred.

58.

asked the Minister for Defence with reference to the case of an officer referred to by him as the Unit Accounting Officer in his reply to the debate on Vote 47 in the Dáil on the 23rd May, 1962, if he will state whether the sum of £486 or any part thereof (or any other sum) was due and owing to any State authority on the 31st July, 1961.

In my opinion, a sum which could amount to £486 was so due or owing on 31st July, 1961.

59.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state with reference to replies of 13th June and 20th June, 1962, whether in fact a reply was given to the representations made by the officer referred to in the Questions, and, if so, whether orally or in writing.

As the information requested by the Deputy is confidential, I am not prepared to make it available to him.
