Vol. 199 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air Transport of Tourist Cars.

49.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will give an account of the provisions made at present for the flying of tourist cars into the various Irish airports; and whether he will take steps to have such a service provided at Shannon Airport for the coming tourist season.

As from May this year, Aer Lingus will introduce an air vehicle ferry service providing seven to 13 round trips per week between Dublin and Liverpool; three round trips a week between Dublin and Bristol; and two to four round trips a week between Cork and Bristol. The company are contemplating providing also an air vehicle service between Dublin and Cherbourg later this year.

Aer Lingus will consider the extension of the air car ferry service as demand arises. The preliminary study carried out by the company has not indicated any demand for a service at Shannon Airport.
