Vol. 199 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Schools.

53.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding proposals for the erection of national schools at (1) Corclough West, Belmullet, (2) Rossport, (3) Doohoma, (4) Ballymunnelly, and (5) Ellybay, County Mayo.

Grants have been sanctioned towards the cost of erecting new schools at Corclough West, Rossport and Ellybay. The Commissioners of Public Works will prepare working drawings for the first two schools when a water supply has been made available in each case. In view of the declining numbers in the Ellybay district the question of providing a permanent school transport service for the children instead of erecting a new school is being investigated by the Department at the Reverend Manager's request.

The site originally offered for the proposed new school at Doohoma was found to be unsuitable. The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to inspect an alternative site offered by the Reverend Manager.

In the Ballymunnelly case, I have nothing to add to my reply of 30th October, 1962.
