Vol. 200 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contributions to Sea Rescue Service.

27.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if any contributions are made by (a) the Government or (b) the local authorities towards the operation and maintenance of the lifeboat rescue service, or any other sea rescue service, in this country; and, if so, if he will state the annual amount or estimated amount of such contributions.

The lifeboat rescue service in this country is operated and maintained by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution which is a private organisation maintained solely by private subscriptions. Neither the Government nor the local authorities make any contributions to it. The cost of operating and maintaining the coast lifesaving service is met from the Vote for my Department. The annual amount is approximately £13,000.
