Vol. 200 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Junction Train Delays.

38.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether any complaints have been received in his Department from Bord Fáilte, travel agencies or business organisations regarding the dislocation, irritation and hardship caused by the unnecessary and prolonged stop at Limerick Junction on the main run to and from Cork; whether he has forwarded these complaints to CIE; and whether any action is being taken to obviate these irksome delays.

No complaints have been received in my Department in regard to the length of the stop at Limerick Junction in cases of scheduled trains on the main run to and from Cork, and I am advised by CIE that they have received no complaints that the intervals cause dislocation, irritation or hardship. CIE also state that the scheduled intervals are no more than are necessary having regard to the traffic and operations requirements of the various trains.

Could the Minister indicate whether any attention has been given to the proposal to have a drive-in stop at that junction to obviate the delay in reversing at the moment?

That has been examined from time to time.

Would the Minister state what consequences flowed from the examination?

I am unable to state it.

He went back to his old form and refused to answer.
