Vol. 200 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Contributory Pension Claimants.

27.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that people claimed and were refused contributory old age pensions, and lost many weeks of benefit, because of the fact that an application for non-contributory pension was not retrospective as from the date they claimed contributory pensions; and if he will by regulation ensure that all such persons claiming non-contributory pensions will have their claims made retrospective as from the date on which they first claimed a contributory pension.

Arrangements already exist in my Department under which all cases of this kind are specially examined with a view to payment of the non-contributory pension from the date of the earlier claim. If the Deputy will let me know of any particular case he has in mind I will have it investigated.
