NOTES:

(1) In addition, an aggregate area of some 320 acres in County Tipperary NR has been transferred to the Land Commission by way of exchange.

(2) It is not possible to indicate when the individual estates referred to will be allotted but there will be no avoidable delay. In County Tipperary as a whole, during the past three years, a total area of approximately 5,600 acres has been distributed by the Land Commission in some 340 allotments.

26.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of acres of forestry land at present under the control of his Department in North Tipperary; the number of such acres which are planted; and the number of persons employed on forestry work by his Department in the area.

27.

asked the Minister for Lands whether his Department have at present under consideration for acquisition for forestry purposes any areas of land in North Tipperary, and, if so, what areas.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 26 and 27 together.

There are at present 158 areas totalling 6,733 acres, on offer for afforestation purposes in North Tipperary. In three of these cases, totalling 72 acres, sales have been closed and possession is pending. In 25 other cases comprising 1,422 acres, agreement to purchase has been reached and title is in course of clearance. Negotiations to purchase are in progress with the owners of another 35 cases totalling 1,480 acres. The remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation.

The productive area of land now held by the Forestry Division in North Tipperary is 11,326 acres of which 9,600 acres have been planted.

The number of men employed at a recent date at the forests in North Tipperary was 114.
