Vol. 207 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Laneway.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the bad condition of the laneway at Rathingle (Forest Fields) Swords, County Dublin; if, in view of the fact that there are eleven council cottages and a farmhouse situated there, he will use his good offices to secure its repair by Dublin County Council; and if he will arrange for the local authority to favourably consider the provision of water, sewerage and adequate lighting in this case.

I understand from the Dublin County Council that the road was surface-dressed in 1961 and that the provision of water supply will be considered under the North Dublin Regional Water Supply Scheme. The council have no proposals for the provision of public lighting on the road. The position of a sewerage scheme cannot be considered until a water supply can be provided.

In view of the Minister's oft-expressed anxiety that areas with concentrations of rural housing such as this should be serviced with the minimum delay and in every sense, with water sewerage and public lighting, adequate roadways and paths, and since the reply which he has given indicates no great urgency on the part of the local authority involved, will he now make strong representations to the semi-moribund body called Dublin County Council to get this job done?

I shall certainly pass on the views expressed here by the Deputy.

Thank you very much.

To the Deputy's former colleagues.
