Vol. 207 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Urban Council Houses.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will define the rights of urban council house tenants in districts such as Wolfe Tone Square, Bray, County Wicklow in relation to purchase of their houses; and if he will arrange that such tenants who wish to purchase their houses shall be enabled to do so.

Where an urban housing authority has made, with my consent, a sale scheme in respect of houses provided by them under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts, the tenants of the houses may purchase them in accordance with the terms of the scheme. I understand that a scheme in relation to Wolfe Tone Square, Bray, is shortly to be brought before the housing authority for their consideration.

Can the Minister say whether it will be necessary for all the residents to participate in a purchase scheme or can individual residents purchase?

I am afraid it is outside my competence to answer that question. The Deputy might address it to the Minister for Local Government.
