Vol. 207 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Wage Increases.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the total amount of wages paid during the past 12 months to all officers and servants of county councils and other local authorities in the Republic, and the estimated increase in expenditure to be met by the ratepayers based on 12 per cent increased remuneration.

The total expenditure of local authorities other than vocational education committees and county committees of agriculture, on wages and salaries in respect of the year ended the 31st March, 1963, was £23,151,668. It is not possible to say the extent to which any increase in remuneration would have to be met by the ratepayers because increased expenditure in most cases attracts increased State grants.
