Vol. 208 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Overtime on Army Pay Increase.

101.

asked the Minister for Defence the amount paid in overtime to have the recent pay increase to the Army prepared in time for 14th February 1964.

The first payment on foot of the recent pay increase for the Army was made on 21st February to non-commissioned officers and men and on 29th February to officers.

No overtime was involved in these payments nor in the earlier preparations in regard to them.

Is it a fact that the only reason why overtime was not paid to civil servants is that civil servants are not paid overtime but that, in fact, the civil servants did work overtime?

The Deputy is not correct there.

Perhaps in view of the fact that we are coming into a recess, the Minister will get in touch with the Minister for Agriculture to do something for the farmers in Donegal, or will he wait until there is a by-election there, too?

That does not arise out of the question.
