Vol. 209 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Galway River.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will examine the possibility of carrying out a drainage scheme on the Boula River from its source in Pollock's Bog, Woodfield, Quansboro', Eyrecourt, County Galway to a point half a mile north of Portumna, where it enters the Shannon, especially since the necessary machinery for the carrying out of the work is based locally on the Killimor Drainage Scheme.

This tributary joins the Shannon in the stretch below Athlone where critical flooding occurs and it has been decided that its improvement must await a scheme for the Shannon flood problem as a whole. It could not be dealt with in conjunction with the Killimor scheme which concerns an independent catchment with its outfalls lower down into Lough Derg where its discharge does not cause any flooding.
