Vol. 211 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Camp Army House.

34.

asked the Minister for Defence why it took a year to decide that Clonree House, Curragh Camp, would not be utilised as officers married quarters.

Before Clonree House was evacuated as officers married quarters by the two last occupants in Eanáir and Aibreán, 1963, it was felt that, in view of its condition and the then estimated cost of necessary repairs, it would no longer be economic to retain it for use as officers married quarters. Subsequent to its evacuation the matter was again examined in more detail to see whether there was any possibility of having the building repaired at an economic figure to render it suitable for continued use as officers married quarters. This involved much detailed technical investigation and estimation. It was finally decided in Samhain, 1963, to offer the house and adjoining stables for long lease by public competition.

The necessary formalities towards the disposal of the property are now nearing completion and it is expected that the property will be advertised in the very near future.
