Vol. 211 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loss to County Limerick House Purchasers.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a number of people who purchased houses at Ballykeeffe, Dooradoyle, Mungret, County Limerick from Messrs. Permanent Estates Ltd., Public Utility Company, and Permanent Estates and Company Ltd., lost money on their transactions because of the change in title of the vendors; if he will arrange to make good the loss by allowing increased grants; if he will indicate the number of persons who are due grants; and when they will receive payment.

I am aware that a reduction of £10 per house was made in the amounts of State grants paid to Messrs. Permanent Estates, Ltd. in respect of the erection of ten houses at Ballykeeffe, Dooradoyle, Mungret, County Limerick. This reduction was made because at the time of payment, notification had been received that the Building Company was no longer operating as a Public Utility Society. It has since been established, however, that the Public Utility Society is still functioning for this scheme. The houses are, therefore, entitled to the higher rate of grant and arrangements are being made to make additional grant payments of £10 in each of these cases. Balances of grants are outstanding in an additional 13 cases. Of these, arrangements are proceeding for payment in four cases, and for final inspection in seven others. In the remaining two cases, the attention of the Public Utility Society has been drawn to the necessity for the correction of defects before final payment can be made.
