Vol. 211 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate Roads.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Land Commission made a stop-end road from the Caltray Fohenagh road at Pallas into the Dillon Estate, Clonbrock, Ahascragh, Ballinasloe, County Galway, to serve ten families in connection with the former division of portion of this Estate; that there already exists another road from the Fohenagh Ahascragh county road at the opposite end of this Estate which the Land Commission have now acquired for division; and that approximately six hundred yards of roadway would link up the two roads; and if, as there is every possibility that Galway County Council would take over the link road and maintain it, he will strongly impress upon the Land Commission to have these two roads connected in view of the fact that the tenant on the holding between the roads is prepared to let the link road go through his lands for the benefit of the tenants concerned and of the general public in going to Mass, schools, markets, fairs, etc.

I understand that the question of providing the link road mentioned by the Deputy will be examined by the Land Commission in conjunction with the division of the Dillon and Mahon estate, resale proposals for which are in course of formulation.
