asked the Minister for Defence what is the reason for the undue delay in acceding to the request of the urban council for the provision of land adjacent to Custume Barracks, Athlone, County Westmeath, for a swimming pool; and when finality may be expected in the matter.

The question of providing a site at Dún Chostuim, Áth Luain, for development as a swimming pool has been the subject of letters from Comhairle Bhaile Cheanntair Átha Luain to my Department under the following dates:
4th April, 1963, 22nd April, 1963, 4th November, 1963, 10th Feb ruary, 1964, 26th March, 1964 and 10th instant.
These letters were acknowledged on receipt.
This matter is bound up with the question of a site for houses for soldiers in Áth Luain, and An Comhairle was informed by letter dated the 16th instant that pending a final decision regarding the letter question it is not possible to say whether or not a site can be made available for a swimming pool.
I regret that I cannot indicate when finality may be reached in the matter.
