Vol. 214 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Delivery of Letters.

132.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that letters addressed to the mothers of homeless families in Griffith Barracks, Dublin, have been rejected by the Army authorities and returned to the senders on the grounds that the addressees are not known to the Army authorities; and if he will ensure that such correspondence is in future handed over to officials of the Dublin Health Authority for distribution to the families occupying that portion of Griffith Barracks assigned to that Authority.

Mail for Griffith Barracks is delivered at the Main Gate where it is sorted by a military policeman for collection on behalf of the various groups in the Barracks. In the case of the homeless families the collection is made by a porter employed by the Dublin Health Authority. If the addressee of any mail cannot be identified such mail is necessarily returned to the postman.
