Vol. 214 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford River Drainage.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position with regard to the proposed drainage of the Assaly River, County Wexford; and which of the three proposals made will be implemented.

Much consideration has been given to the problem of the drainage of the Assaly catchment but it has not been possible to devise a scheme which at a reasonable cost would bring a fair degree of improvement to the area of land now flooded and which would not be unduly expensive to maintain. Before taking a final decision in the matter, the Commissioners of Public Works sent to the Wexford County Council for their observations, particulars of the three proposals, but a reply has not so far been received. It does not seem likely that any scheme will be carried out.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position with regard to the proposed drainage scheme on the Ounavarragh River, County Wexford; and when this work is likely to commence.

The scheme has been confirmed by the Minister for Finance. Contract documents are being prepared and tenders will be invited for the carrying out of the scheme shortly. It is hoped to have work commenced this year.
