Vol. 214 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Inflight Entertainment.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether, with a view to competing for extra traffic on the transatlantc routes, Aer Lingus propose to install facilities for inflight entertainments on their planes, or to provide other inducements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand from Aerlínte, the company which operates our transatlantic services, that they have no plans for inflight entertainment but are examining the matter. The cost would ultimately have to be borne by increased fares which would run counter to the company's policy of keeping fares at the lowest possible level. I further understand that because of the excessive cost, the airlines operating over the North Atlantic are coming to an agreement in the matter of inflight entertainment, the main purport of which would be to exclude visual entertainment.
