Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Drugs and Medicines.

71.

asked the Minister for Health the number of applications for drugs and medicines free of charge made under section 14 of the Health Act, 1953, to the Dublin Health Authority in each of the last five years; and the number thereof which were refused.

I presume the Deputy's question refers to the arrangements for the supply of medicines, free of charge, under section 14 of the Health Act, 1953, in cases of hardship, to persons not covered by medical cards.

Dublin Health Authority have not the information available for the years prior to 1963. In the calendar year 1963, the health authority received 260 such applications, of which 58 were refused; in 1964, the relevant figures were 200 applications received, 81 refused.
