asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the last five years (a) the amount of outside capital invested in starting new industries in this country, (b) the amount of grants given by An Foras Tionscal, (c) the total employment given by those industries, and (d) the numbers that have closed down or gone out of production.

I assume the Deputy's question refers to new industries which have received grant assistance and the particulars are as follows:
(a) The amount of outside capital invested in the establishment of such new industries over the past five years was £11,609,900.
(b) Grants amounting to £8,700,800 approximately were approved by An Foras Tionscal for these industries.
(c) Particulars of total employment given by these industries are not available.
(d) Seven of these firms have ceased production but three of the factories concerned have been taken over by other interests.
