It is estimated on the basis of the retail price index numbers that 9s. 3d. would be required at mid-May, 1939 and 30s. 11d. at mid-May, 1965 to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as would 9s. 0d. at mid-May, 1937. The relevant index numbers are calculated in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November each year.
