Vol. 218 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clones Technical School.

46.

asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be given for the loan for Clones technical school, for which sanction has been sought by the Monaghan Vocational Education Committee.

My Department sanctioned the loan in question on 23rd March, 1965.

Does the Minister know of any reason for the hold-up in building the school?

No, not offhand, but I can tell the Deputy that some sums of money have been drawn on foot of the loan — I presume in connection with professional fees or something like that. There is no obvious reason for any hold-up.

If the loan was sanctioned as long ago as last March, does this not cause the Minister some surprise?

The Deputy may be under a misapprehension. After the loan has been sanctioned, there are other steps to be taken, the submission of plans, working drawings and so on. The stage at which the loan is sanctioned is not the one at which you proceed to build a school.

Perhaps the Minister has not yet received plans for working drawings?

Working drawings are at present under consideration in my Department.

Could the Minister give me any idea how long it will take to complete consideration of these?

I am afraid I could not.
