andMr. McAuliffe asked the Minister for Local Government when he is prepared to communicate with Cork County Council regarding sanction for loans for housing, water supply and sewerage schemes for which the council has applied; and if he will further state, in the case of each such scheme, (a) when he received application for the loan from the county council; and (b) when he expects that the requisite finance will be made available.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork County Council Loans.
As the reply includes a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.
Following is the reply:— Cork County Council were informed last week of their capital allocation for the coming financial year in respect of local authority housing schemes. They have been requested to decide the order of priority of works to be undertaken within that allocation. Approval will be given to the appropriate loans on the basis of the Council's decision. The general position regarding the capital allocation for sanitary services for 1966-67 is under examination.
The following applications for loans have been made by the county council on the dates indicated:—

The Parliamentary Secretary's Department has circulated to local authorities within the past few days a statement giving the allocations referred to in this question. Is he aware that Cork County Council (West) has commitments for 40 new houses, and the amount allocated for Cork County Council (West) for 1966-67, according to the statement, is given here by three letters n-i-l? How does the Parliamentary Secretary expect Cork County Council (West) to build houses in 1966-67—is it with marbles?—seeing that the amount allocated is nil? In view of the many statements written and verbal, submitted to local authorities by the Minister for Local Government asking them to expedite housing programmes——
Deputies
Speech.
——how can he justify allocating no money to Cork County Council (West)? I should like to get a reply from the Parliamentary Secretary, because we have a meeting of Cork County Council within the next few days. The amount of money for North Cork is £17,000, for South Cork, £19,000 and for West Cork, nil.
Will the Deputy resume his seat?
