Vol. 223 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Coolock (Dublin) Housing Grant.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether a housing grant was paid in respect of 20 Bóthar Measc, Coolock, Dublin; if so, when; and when his Department will furnish to Dublin Corporation a certificate that the grant has been paid.

An instalment of the State grant in this case was paid on 15th June, 1964, and the balance on 25th June, 1965. Notification of both payments was issued by the Department to Dublin Corporation in July, 1965. A duplicate has now been issued.

Did the Minister say "July, 1965"?

I understand there is an amplification system in this House?

Yes, but apparently the Minister has his things over it; we cannot hear the Minister.

I have not got my things over it, as the Deputy says.

It is impossible to hear the Minister.

The amplification system is a Fianna Fáil gadget and, not unexpectedly, it does not work.

My supplementary arising out of the Minister's inaudible reply is: "Was that notification sent to Dublin Corporation in July, 1965?"

How does the supplementary arise out of the reply?

The Minister asserts he gave a reply and we are prepared to accept that.

The Deputy is asking a supplementary arising out of my reply, without having heard my reply.

The Minister uttered sounds which to me might have amounted to a statement that notification was sent to Dublin Corporation in July, 1965.

The Minister said that while sitting on his fanny.

No, it is only the leader of the Labour Party who speaks while sitting on his fanny.

We would want Deputy Corry here to explain that.

No vulgarity to the Taoiseach now.

Order. Is Deputy Ryan asking a supplementary question?

I do not know the question.

I am asking again did I understand the Minister correctly as saying that notification was issued in July, 1965?

(Interruptions.)

Deputy Ryan, on a supplementary question.

Is the Minister saying that the note was issued to Dublin Corporation in July 1965?

Correct.

Is the Minister aware that Dublin Corporation notified the applicant in question on several occasions that notice had not been received by them from the Department of Local Government?

Though a year has elapsed since then, until the Deputy raised the question, no notification reached my Department.

It is now put right?

I hope so.
