Vol. 224 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions Oral Answers. - Natural Gas Survey.

53.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state if any surveys for natural gas have been carried out in the Irish sea.

I assume that the Deputy's question refers to Irish territorial waters. The company which has been granted the exclusive right of searching for and developing petroleum and natural gas deposits in this country has carried out certain investigations in the territorial waters and in accordance with the terms of the licence has submitted details to my Department. This information is confidential.

The State's jurisdiction in regard to exploration does not, at present, extend beyond the territorial waters.
