asked the Minister for Education if in view of the proposed abolition of post-primary scholarships he will increase the annual grant of £30 per annum to students from islands where there are no secondary or vocational schools; and, if so, to what amount he will increase such grants.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Grant for Island Students.
39.
Mr. O'Malley
Under my new scheme, pupils resident on islands where there are no post-primary schools will be entitled to attend boarding schools where the total fee does not exceed £120 per annum and my Department will pay the total boarding school fee on their behalf.
In view of the special nature and purpose of the Gaeltacht scholarships, Roinn na Gaeltachta will operate a separate scheme of grants in relation to pupils from Gaeltacht areas.
