Vol. 227 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Foxford Vocational School.

21.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in sanctioning the Mayo vocational education committee's proposal to build a five-roomed school in Foxford, County Mayo; whether the alternative plan proposed by the Development Branch of his Department will enable all the children seeking vocational education next September to avail of it; what action he proposes to take if the Mayo vocational education committee do not adopt the alternative plan of the Development Branch; and if such non-co-operation could prevent vocational education being made available in Foxford by September, 1967.

The position in regard to the provision of full post-primary educational facilities in Foxford was discussed at a meeting in Castlebar on 7th April which considered my Department's educational plan for County Mayo. It was agreed by all the interests concerned that a further meeting would be held in Foxford within the next fortnight to resolve outstanding differences as to the best way of catering for the children of the Foxford area from September next. What is required is full co-operation between the secondary and vocational school authorities and I am confident that this will be forthcoming.

May we take it, therefore, that full post-primary educational opportunities will be available in Foxford next September?

Mr. O'Malley

That is our ambition.

It is an ambition?

Mr. O'Malley

It is our hope.

A hope? Is it not a reality?

Mr. O'Malley

Not yet anyway.
