Vol. 229 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Vocational School.

32.

asked the Minister for Education what is the up-to-date position regarding the erection of a vocational school at Ballyglass, Claremorris, County Mayo.

The position has changed since the County Mayo Vocational Education Committee made their original proposal in regard to the erection of a vocational school in Ballyglass. At that time, there were no post-primary education facilities for boys available locally but the Society of African Missions have now decided to take day boys in their College at Ballinafad. The Convent in Balla is providing full facilities for girls. In the circumstances, there is no need for another post-primary school in the area. I am however, prepared to consider sanctioning the erection of a one or two roomed school for adult education and evening classes if the vocational education committee wish to provide such facilities in Ballyglass.
