The maximum allowances by way of grants and rate remission for person purchasing a new house vary with the size of the house, its situation and the income of the purchaser.
For a house in a rural area, they could amount to about £1,190 made up as follows:—

For a house in an urban area, the maximum allowances could amount to about £1,000, including State and supplementary grants of up to £570 and the new site subsidy of up to £150.
The reduction in stamp duty from 3 per cent to 1 per cent for new houses for which a State grant is paid is not included in these calculations. The value of the concession, where it applies, would be about £70 on a house costing £3,500.
