Vol. 229 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Pylons at Ballymun.

1.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that new tenants at Ballymun, Dublin, are concerned about the danger of unprotected ESB pylons in close proximity to flats; and why the Ballymun Tenants Association have not heard from the ESB in reply to their representations about this danger.

I have been informed by the Electricity Supply Board that representations have been made to them regarding the alleged danger likely to arise from the presence of seven masts carrying a high-tension line in the vicinity of Ballymun flats. The Board state that these masts are all protected by barbed wire and that there are "Danger" and "Anti-climbing" notices on the masts. It would be impracticable for the Board to fit all their masts with anti-climbing devices, but the question of fitting masts in certain locations, including the masts at Ballymun, with anti-climbing devices is at present under consideration. A final decision has not yet been taken regarding the most suitable type of anti-climbing device to be fitted and for that reason it has not so far been possible for the Board to reply adequately to the representations of the Ballymun Tenants Association.
