Vol. 229 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Controlled Crossing.

31.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will provide for a controlled crossing at the entrance to Sandyhill Gardens and Silloge Gardens, Ballymun, Dublin.

Sandyhill Gardens and Silloge Gardens form part of the Ballymun Housing Estate and exit from them is by way of temporary roads leading to Ballymun Road. I understand that the plans for the area provide for the reconstruction of Ballymun Road, with the erection of a roundabout at the main entrance to the scheme and the provision of underpasses to facilitate pedestrian traffic on to and across the reconstructed road.

In view of this, the Garda do not propose at present to ask the local authorities concerned to provide any controlled crossings at the places referred to in the question. However, as work progresses on the scheme, the position will be kept under review by the Garda in consultation with technical officers of the local authorities and any action which is considered necessary as a temporary measure to facilitate both pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be taken.
