Vol. 231 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda IRA Medal Holders.

39.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will give all members of the Garda who are holders of IRA service medals without bar, the same concessions with regard to retirement age as those with medals with bar.

I dealt very fully with this matter in reply to a Dáil Question on 24th November, 1965, when I explained why this concession could not be granted as an addition to the substantial concessions already granted to the older members of the Force in relation to the ages of compulsory retirement.

I am satisfied that there are no new factors which would warrant a departure from the decisions made in 1965 which was a repeat of decisions made by each successive Minister for Justice in the past 20 years.

I am sending the Deputy a copy of the reply which I gave on 24th November, 1965.
